Folk Clubs, Singarounds and Sessions
At this year’s FolkStation, we will have a permanent club marquee that will be used for workshops, music sessions, singarounds and some guest appearances.
This venue will be very much “open house” so that you can join in with a variety of events. To help things along we will have some MC-lead club sessions as well as some guest appearances by artists so that you will have the opportunity to learn from them and question them about their music, etc.
Artists definitely booked so far are:
Shadows in the Shade: the duo of Jed Stone and Des Tighe will be leading shanty sessions for you to join in.
Gren Bartley: Singer/guitarist Gren will be giving a guest appearance from his large repertoire of original and traditional songs, many of which have appeared on his latest CD, “Songs to scythe back the overgrown” (due out March 2012).
The Island Storytellers: a diverse group of people who love stories: ancient, modern; based on fact or totally impossible; anecdotes and reminiscences; fairy tales or folk tales, in rhyme or as prose. Everybody is welcome to come along to the storytelling sessions to tell a tale or to just sit and listen. Older children are welcome to come along too.
Sessions: There will be folk-club style sessions on Friday evening, during Saturday and Sunday and late-night sessions each evening.
Workshops: Being finalised are some workshops that will be conducted at various locations around the festival site, including the club tent. See the list under the “What’s on” tab.
